Motivational quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru for students

We commemorate our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday, November 14, as Children’s Day (Bal Diwas) in India. Jawaharlal Nehru was fond of children, thus he was called ‘Chacha Nehru’ by them.

Nehru had always been affectionate towards children which made him so popular among them. He envisaged the possibility of establishing fulfilled education for children.

He had always believed that children are the future of our country. Nehru once said “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country.”

Here are some quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru which shows his vision and love toward children and country.

“The object of education was to produce a desire to serve the community as a whole and to apply the knowledge gained not only for personal but for public welfare.”

“Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism, the way you play it is free will.”

“Our chief defect is that we are more given to talking about things than to doing them.”

Loyal and efficient work in a great cause, even though it may not be immediately recognised, ultimately bears fruit.

Jawaharlal Nehru

”A university stands for humanism, for tolerance, for reason, for the adventure of ideas and the search for truth.”

“A great disaster is a symbol to us to remember all the big things of life and forget the small things, of which we have thought too much.”

“To be in good moral condition requires at least as much training as to be in good physical condition.”

“The only way to reform them (children) is to win them over with love. So long as a child is unfriendly, you can’t mend his ways. He can be disciplined, if his attention is drawn to some other activity, like a voluntary body in Delhi (the 1960s) ‘Bal Sahyog’ used to do. They learn many things there during vacations, without any compulsion of sort and then their minds get diverted to constructive channels.”

There is perhaps nothing so bad and so dangerous in life as fear.

Jawaharlal Nehru

“Children are like buds in a garden and should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow.”

“Children do not think of differences amongst themselves.”

“What we are matters more than what other people think of us.”
